Submissions for our Spring 2026 issue are open.

What
how
All UNC Asheville students are invited to submit original and previously unpublished creative work to the magazine.
The Headwaters staff, supervised by their faculty advisor, will read each submission carefully before selecting the content for this year's issue.
If you have not received a response to your submission by spring break, please contact us.
We publish poetry, fiction, essays, visual art, and photography.
Poetry: Submit up to 5 poems in a single file; the entire submission should not exceed 10 pages total.
Fiction: Submit up to 3 stories, flash fiction pieces, novel excerpts (that can stand alone), or graphic short stories in a single file; pieces should not exceed 7,500 words.
Essays: Submit up to 3 personal essays, lyric essays, memoirs, pieces of literary journalism, or other hybrid forms in a single file; pieces should not exceed 7,500 words.
Art & Photos: Submit up to five pieces of high resolution photography and/or artwork, in color or in b/w; resolution should be at least 300 ppi.

Please use a standard font (e.g., Times New Roman)
Make sure your formatting is just as you would prefer it on the page.
Please remove any identifying author information.
Please make sure all art and photography is high resolution (at least 300 ppi).
Please title your submission by including the title of your first piece and the number of other included pieces (e.g., "Paradise Lost and 4 Poems.docx")
